GE Profile range hoods,
specifically.

GE Profile covers the everyday end of GE's hood line: the PVX7300 and PVX7360 under-the-cabinet hoods, the PV970 and PV976 chimney hoods with a memory button, PVW wall hoods with Clean Air Sensors, the PV977 island chimney hood, and universal inserts, island hoods and telescopic downdrafts that GE files under the Profile name. Many of them pair with a GE cooking product over Chef Connect, and they signal through lit button collars and backlights rather than a code display.

The GE Profile lineup

What is particular
to GE Profile.

We service GE Profile under-the-cabinet hoods, wall-mount chimney and pyramid hoods with Clean Air Sensors, island chimney hoods, the universal custom inserts and island hoods sold under Profile, and the telescopic downdrafts. The model and serial label is on the inside of the hood.

Lit collars tell you the state

On the PV970 and PV976 chimney hoods, the ring around each button lights when pressed. All collars glowing after MEMORY/OFF means the memory was never set, while a collar that will not light points to a stuck button.

A heat sensor that sets MED

On those chimney hoods, the heat sensor brings the fan to MED when it is off or on LOW, and it will not let you go below MED until the heat drops. The button collars may stay dark while it is active, which is normal.

Chef Connect lights run in order

On the PVX7300 under-cabinet hood, pairing makes the Lo, Med, Hi and Light backlights flash in sequence, and a successful pairing flashes all four together three times. A hood left in pairing gives up after 2 minutes.

A blower plug that ships loose

GE's troubleshooting for the under-cabinet hood lists a blower connector that the installer never plugged in firmly as a reason the fan will not start. That check sits behind the filters at the blower wiring, so we make it on the visit.

Parts

The designer and pyramid hoods take the UXCF91 charcoal filter, which is replaced rather than washed. Blower motors, control boards and LED modules are ordered by the model and serial number from the label inside the hood.

Repair or replace

A GE Profile hood with a failed switch, board or blower is usually worth repairing when the stainless is sound and the duct is right. On a basic under-cabinet model with a failed motor and an undersized duct, replacing it along with the duct can be the smarter spend.

Questions about
GE Profile range hoods.

Why won't my GE Profile hood let me turn the fan below MED?
On the PV970 and PV976 chimney hoods, the heat sensor is holding it there. It raised the fan to MED because it sensed too much heat, and it will not allow LOW or OFF until the area cools. Remove the heat and wait; if it never releases, book a visit.
All the button rings on my GE Profile hood light up but nothing runs. Why?
That happens when MEMORY/OFF is pressed before a memory setting was saved. Set the fan and light where you want them and save them with MEMORY/OFF; the hood then restores that setting at each press.
My GE Profile under-cabinet hood fan will not start, but the light works. What now?
Reset the breaker first in case the controls are confused. GE also lists a loose blower connector left by the installer as a cause, which sits at the blower wiring behind the filters, so book a visit for that check rather than reaching into it.
Does the air-quality light on my GE Profile hood need Wi-Fi?
Yes. On the PVW wall hoods with Clean Air Sensors, the air-quality LED only works once the hood is connected through the SmartHQ app.
