A stainless steel wall-mount chimney range hood fixed to a white subway tile wall in a US home kitchen, the range hood's rectangular chimney cover rising straight to the ceiling, soft steam rising from a pot into the canopy, the range hood filling the upper half of the frame, the cooking surface below cropped and out of focus at the bottom edge.

Bertazzoni range hoods,
specifically.

Bertazzoni sells its Italian-built hoods in the US as chimney and T-shape wall hoods, canopy hoods that fit under a cabinet or on the wall, telescopic visor hoods, T-shape island hoods and liners for a built hood. The families differ in what they tell you: some have plain speed keys, others blink a key or a display letter when the filters are due, so knowing the model letters saves time on a visit.

The Bertazzoni lineup

What is particular
to Bertazzoni.

Bertazzoni's US ventilation page sorts hoods by type: wallmount, visor, insert, island and over-the-cooking-surface microwave models, across its Professional, Master and Heritage lines. The microwave combinations belong to our microwave service; everything else on that list is a hood we work on here.

Filter alarms that count hours

Several Bertazzoni control panels keep a running total of blower hours and then blink to ask for filter care. On the KMC canopy the S1 light comes on steady for the grease filters and flashes for the charcoal filter, and older KG and KPH hoods signal it with a blinking display letter or key.

A visor that is also the switch

On the KTV telescopic visor hoods the blower and the light run from switches behind the front trim and then follow the visor itself. With both switches on, pulling the visor out starts the hood and pushing it back shuts it down, so a hood that seems dead may just have its switches set to 0.

Timed boost that steps back down

The intensive speed on the newer panels is timed and returns to the earlier setting by itself, after six minutes on the KMC and the KIN liners and after ten on the KT and KTI T-shape hoods. A hood that drops a speed on its own during a long sear is usually doing exactly that.

LED lights are not an owner swap

Bertazzoni's T-shape manuals say their LED lights are to be replaced by service, not by the owner. A dark LED strip on those hoods is a visit, while older halogen models take a bulb change.

Parts

Charcoal filter kits are model specific (the KT and KTI T-shape hoods list kit 901497, the KIN liners their own kit), and Bertazzoni publishes a ventilation accessories matrix that matches duct covers and kits to each hood. Blowers, keypads and LED boards are ordered by the model code on the hood's rating label.

Repair or replace

A Bertazzoni hood with a sound shell and a working blower is nearly always worth repairing, since keypads, capacitors and lights are modest parts compared with a matched Italian hood. Replacement is worth discussing when the blower motor itself has failed on an older model whose housing is heavily greased.

Questions about
Bertazzoni range hoods.

Why is one key blinking on my Bertazzoni hood?
On a KPH hood a blinking A key is the filter reminder: a slow blink every two seconds asks for the grease filters, a quick one every half second for the charcoal filters. After cleaning, hold the A key for about five seconds until it stops.
My Bertazzoni visor hood does nothing when I press the switch. Is it broken?
On the KTV visor models the blower and light only run while the visor is pulled out, and both switches behind the trim have to be set above 0. Check both before booking a visit for the switch or the blower.
Can a Bertazzoni canopy hood be mounted under a cabinet?
Yes. Bertazzoni describes its KU canopy hoods as fitting under a cabinet or on the wall with a separate duct cover, and it can be vented outside or set up to recirculate.
How often do the charcoal filters in a Bertazzoni hood need replacing?
Bertazzoni's manuals give roughly every four months of use, sooner with heavy cooking, and the charcoal cannot be washed. Grease filters are washable and the manuals ask for cleaning at least every two months.
Why did my Bertazzoni hood slow down by itself?
The intensive speed is on a timer and drops back to the previous speed when it runs out. If the hood slows with no boost running, or will not hold any speed, book a visit for the blower and board.
