DCS vent hoods are heavy stainless pieces from the brand's indoor years, built with baffle filters, drip trays and knob controls. We keep them running with blower, switch and lighting work, since the hood usually matches the rest of the kitchen and replacing it means reworking the duct.

The DCS US site now covers outdoor cooking, cooling, heating and storage, with no ventilation category. Its support site still keeps indoor ventilation documents for 36-inch models such as the VS and ES hoods, the HD36 and a DD-36SS downdraft, so the hoods we see are earlier installations still in use.

DCS documented Professional vent hoods VS30, VS36, VS48 and VS1236 and Euro vent hoods ES30 and ES36, with remote or internal blowers. Its support site also lists VH, IVH and EH hoods and downdraft models for 36-inch installations.

Baffles and drip trays instead of mesh

DCS Professional hoods channel grease through metal baffles into drip trays, and the baffles also shield the hood from flare-ups. Both need to be in place whenever the hood runs, and full trays are the usual source of drips.

Plain knobs, no electronics to read

Fan speed runs from low to max on one knob and the lights from high to low on another. With no display, diagnosis starts with the switch, the blower motor and the wiring rather than any code.

Halogen lights with a hot glass warning

The hoods use 50-watt GU10 halogen lamps, and DCS warns the bulb can shatter at high temperature. We let them cool and cut the power before swapping one, and a lamp that still will not light points to the socket or switch.

Optional infrared warming lamps

An IR lamp and panel kit could be fitted into these hoods in 30-, 36- and 48-inch sizes. A hood with a dead heat lamp needs its own circuit checked, separate from the main lights.

Parts

DCS still lists some hood spare parts on its site, but many indoor hood parts are discontinued, so we confirm the model, code and serial number from the plate behind the grease filters before quoting a repair. Lamps are standard GU10 halogen bulbs.

Repair or replace

A DCS hood with a worn switch, a failed lamp socket or a tired blower is usually worth fixing because the shell and baffles rarely wear out. If the motor for your model is no longer supplied, a comparable replacement hood that fits the existing duct is the fallback.
