What is particular
to Thermador.

Thermador lists custom insert hoods, wall hoods, wall chimney hoods, island hoods, drawer slide-out hoods and downdrafts. The drawer hood HDDB mounts on the wall with a pull-out front, so we treat it as a wall hood.

The blower is a separate choice

Professional Series hoods need a Thermador blower picked separately, mounted in the hood, in the duct or on the roof. A weak or noisy Thermador hood can therefore have its fan far from the hood itself, which changes how we reach it.

Heat sensing on inserts and hoods

Thermador's custom inserts sense heat from the cooking surface and set the fan speed, and AUTO mode on its touch hoods rechecks every five minutes. A fan that seems to start on its own is often this feature, not a stuck switch.

A 40-hour clock and a 30-hour clock

Overhead Thermador hoods light the FILTER key after 40 hours, while the Masterpiece downdraft blinks its FILTER icon after 30. Both are hour counters that need a press to reset once the filters are clean.

Some hoods rated for covered patios

Thermador says its Professional Series hoods on a GFCI-protected supply suit damp locations sheltered from the weather, such as a covered patio. That rating does not stretch to hoods exposed to rain or spray.

Parts

Filters, grease trays and blowers are ordered to the exact model on the rating plate, which sits on the frame behind the filters. Because the blower is sold separately on Professional hoods, we need both the hood and blower model numbers before ordering.

Repair or replace

Thermador hoods are sized and ducted around the cooking below and often paired with a matching blower, so repairing a motor, control board or light is almost always the better route. Replacement is worth weighing only when a discontinued control has no supported part.

Where is the blower on my Thermador Professional hood?
It depends on which one was chosen: integral in the hood, in-line in the duct, or remote outside. The installer picked it separately, so check the paperwork or the blower's own label.
Why won't my Thermador downdraft go up?
The intake stops if something blocks it; clear the path and press the switch again. If it still will not move, book a visit rather than lifting it.
Can my Thermador hood go on a covered patio?
Thermador rates its Professional Series hoods on a GFCI-protected supply for sheltered damp locations like a covered patio or lanai. Check local code before installing.
