What is particular

XO's range hood menu lists wall mount, under-cabinet, island, ceiling, custom hood insert, glide-out visor and outdoor models, plus microwave hood combinations that belong to our microwave service. The model name on the hood (XOB, XOT, XOJ, XOI, XOIL and so on) matches the manual family.

A cap that cannot be lifted

XO's Code Compliance Control lets an installer set a 600 CFM hood to 395 CFM where local make-up air rules require it. The control blinks three times to confirm, Power Boost is switched off with it, and XO states the hood cannot be set back to 600 CFM.

Boost with a timer on it

Power Boost on XO hoods is held on button 3 and makes the LED flash while it runs. Depending on the model it lasts six or ten minutes, then the fan returns to the speed you had before.

A fan that turns itself on

On models with a Clean Air function, the fan wakes at low speed for ten minutes every four hours of idle time, with the Clean Air light blinking. Owners who switch it on and forget are often surprised by a hood that starts in an empty kitchen.

An under-cabinet hood with no filters

The XOA under-cabinet hood uses a FilterLess design with a grease guard, a grease pan and a blower wheel that come out for soaking. Cleaning it means taking the wheel off its shaft, which is a different job from washing mesh filters.

Parts

XO sells recirculation kits, filters, lights, remote controls, switches, blower motors and fan wheels through its parts page, so most parts are standard stock. Order by the full model code, since the same hood shape comes in 395/600 CFM and higher-CFM versions.

Repair or replace

Switches, lights, remotes and blower motors are all sold as parts, so an XO hood with a straight, solid shell is worth repairing. A hood that is simply too weak because Code Compliance Control was set is not a repair; that is a ventilation design question.

Why does my XO hood turn on by itself?
If your model has the Clean Air function and it has been enabled, the fan runs at low speed for ten minutes after every four idle hours, and the Clean Air light blinks while it does. Hold the power button for five seconds with the hood off to disable it.
My XO hood has no Power Boost any more. Is it broken?
If Code Compliance Control was set to 395 CFM, Power Boost is switched off along with it, and XO says that setting is permanent. Look for the sticker the installer was asked to put on the hood.
How do I pair a new XO remote to my hood?
With the hood not running, hold the hood's button for four seconds until it blinks, then press any key on the remote during those five seconds. Repeat if it does not take.
How do I clean an XO FilterLess under-cabinet hood?
XO's steps are to take out the grease pan, the grease guard and its cups, then the blower wheel, and soak them in warm soapy water for 30 minutes. Switch the power off first, and book a visit if the wheel will not come off its shaft.
