The hood has counted enough hours of fan time to ask for its filters: the mesh or baffle grease filters want a wash, or on a recirculating hood the charcoal filters want replacing. Most hoods count hours rather than measure grease, so the light comes on whether the filters are clean or not, and it stays on until it is reset with the key the manual names. A reminder that returns straight after a reset, or a hood that still pulls weakly with fresh filters, is worth a visit.

Switch the hood off and let the filters cool, then take them down and wash them by hand or in the dishwasher.
Let them dry fully and clip them back in with the handles facing out.
Hold the light key (button B) for about five seconds until the F stops flashing.
If the F will not clear, or returns right away, book a visit to check the keypad and control board.

What not to do
The F does not mean the blower or the lights have failed, and the hood keeps working while it flashes. If the display alternates between C and F instead, the charcoal filters are the ones due, not only the grease filters.
