A stainless baffle grease filter half slid out of the underside of an under-cabinet range hood, a small filter symbol glowing on the hood's control strip.

What FILTER lit
actually means.

Thermador's touch-control hoods count how long the blower has run. At 40 hours the FILTER key lights and stays lit, whatever the filters actually look like. The same reminder can be sent to a phone through the Home Connect app when that option is switched on.

What to do when FILTER lit shows on the range hood

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Thermador's own guidance for FILTER lit on its range hoods. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Turn the hood off and let it cool, then take down the baffle or mesh filters and wash them.

02

Refit the filters and check each one is locked into its track.

03

Press and hold FILTER for three seconds until the hood beeps; the light goes out and the 40-hour count restarts.

04

If the key lights again within a day or two, book a visit so the control can be checked.

Still there?

It usually turns into range hood filter and baffle service. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

A lit FILTER key does not mean the blower or the heat sensor has a problem. On the Masterpiece downdraft the reminder behaves differently, with a blinking FILTER icon after 30 hours.

What you may
notice with it.

The range hood problems FILTER lit tends to arrive with. Answer these at the range hood before anyone is booked.

Questions
about FILTER lit.

Can I clear FILTER lit myself?
Turn the hood off and let it cool, then take down the baffle or mesh filters and wash them. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Does the Thermador FILTER light measure how greasy the filters are?
No. It counts 40 hours of blower time and then lights, so clean filters can still trigger it. Resetting after each wash keeps the count honest.
Can the Thermador hood tell my phone when the filters need cleaning?
On Home Connect models, yes. Switch the clean filter reminder on in the app settings, where you can also see how far along the count is.
I held FILTER on my Thermador hood but nothing happened. Why?
The key needs a steady three-second press until the beep. If the control tone has been turned off you will not hear it, so watch for the light going out instead.

Still showing FILTER lit?

Three things make the booking useful: the letters or blink pattern exactly as they showed, the full model number from the label behind the filters, and whether the fan still moves air on every speed. With those, the technician arrives with half the answer already worked out.
