What ACT 390
actually means.

Airflow Control Technology lets the installer cap a Zephyr hood's top airflow, for example to stay under a make-up air limit. Holding ON/OFF for 3 seconds with the hood off shows ACT 390, ACT 590 or ACT 290 when a cap is active, or ACT OFF when it is not. With a cap on, the hood offers fewer fan speeds.

What to do when ACT 390 shows on the range hood

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Zephyr's own guidance for ACT 390 on its range hoods. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Nothing needs fixing; the number is a setting.

02

If the hood seems to have lost its top speeds, check the ACT readout before assuming the blower is weak.

03

The cap is changed with a jumper on the board inside the hood, so book a visit rather than opening it yourself.

Cleared?

The code is gone and the blower pulls steam up on every speed again without a new part. If it returns this week, or the filter reminder keeps coming back right after a cleaning, mention it in the booking.

What not to do

ACT readings are not error codes or temperatures. A hood that shows ACT OFF and still pulls poorly has a duct, damper or blower issue instead.

What you may
notice with it.

The range hood problems ACT 390 tends to arrive with. Answer these at the range hood before anyone is booked.

All problems

No repair indicated

Nothing to repair.

The hood is doing something it was told to do, not wearing out: a delay-off timer that keeps the blower running for some minutes after the burners go off, a heat sentry that starts the fan by itself when it senses a hot pan, a Sabbath setting that locks the keys and dims the lights, or a link to the cooking surface that sets the speed on its own. No part is needed; a key sequence from the manual, or simply waiting, ends it.

In Zephyr's own words

The LCD will display up to three options depending on the settings, "ACT 390", "ACT 590", and "ACT OFF".

Every code on this site is taken from the manufacturer's documentation, never from a forum or a parts listing. Siena Pro and Tornado LCD hoods display it as text; LED-only hoods such as Anzio and Ombra show the cap by how many speed lights come on.

Questions
about ACT 390.

Can I clear ACT 390 myself?
Nothing needs fixing; the number is a setting.
Why does my Zephyr only have four speeds instead of five?
ACT is probably enabled. A capped hood drops one or more of its top speeds.
Can a Zephyr ACT setting be changed later?
Yes, by moving a jumper on the board behind the light panel. It is a job for whoever handles your code compliance.
Where else can I see the Zephyr ACT setting?
Zephyr asks installers to stick a foil CFM label inside the hood near the wiring diagram.

Still showing ACT 390?

Three things make the booking useful: the letters or blink pattern exactly as they showed, the full model number from the label behind the filters, and whether the fan still moves air on every speed. With those, the technician arrives with half the answer already worked out.
