What Able
actually means.

Able is the other half of the vented or recirculating setting. After the two power buttons are held together for 5 seconds with the fan and lights off, Able shows for 3 seconds to confirm that a charcoal filter is in use. The hood then counts 120 fan hours before asking for a new charcoal filter.

What to do when Able shows on the range hood

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from KitchenAid's own guidance for Able on its range hoods. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Keep Able only if the hood recirculates and a charcoal filter kit is fitted.

02

If the hood is ducted outside, repeat the 5-second two-button press until None shows.

03

Note the date, since the charcoal filter on this model is meant to be replaced, not washed.

Cleared?

The code is gone and the blower pulls steam up on every speed again without a new part. If it returns this week, or the filter reminder keeps coming back right after a cleaning, mention it in the booking.

What not to do

Able is a confirmation message, not a warning. A hood that shows Able and then never runs its fan has a separate problem worth a visit.

What you may
notice with it.

The range hood problems Able tends to arrive with. Answer these at the range hood before anyone is booked.

All problems

No repair indicated

Nothing to repair.

The hood is doing something it was told to do, not wearing out: a delay-off timer that keeps the blower running for some minutes after the burners go off, a heat sentry that starts the fan by itself when it senses a hot pan, a Sabbath setting that locks the keys and dims the lights, or a link to the cooking surface that sets the speed on its own. No part is needed; a key sequence from the manual, or simply waiting, ends it.

Questions
about Able.

Can I clear Able myself?
Keep Able only if the hood recirculates and a charcoal filter kit is fitted.
What does Able mean on my KitchenAid hood?
It confirms the hood is set to recirculate through a charcoal filter, so the Replace Charcoal Filter reminder is active.
Why did Able appear when I was pressing buttons on my KitchenAid hood?
Holding Power Decrease and Power Increase together for 5 seconds with the hood off toggles the charcoal setting. If you pressed them by accident and the hood is ducted, press them again until None shows.
Does Able change how strongly my KitchenAid hood pulls air?
No. It only switches the charcoal reminder on; fan speeds are unchanged.

Back to your everyday

Still showing Able?

Three things make the booking useful: the letters or blink pattern exactly as they showed, the full model number from the label behind the filters, and whether the fan still moves air on every speed. With those, the technician arrives with half the answer already worked out.
