Who writes
the guides.

Our range hood articles are drafted by the crew that handles ventilation calls in kitchens across the area. Each subject starts with what an owner describes on booking: steam that hangs over the burners, a fan that howls at high speed, lamps that went dark, a hood that runs on after dinner, or a downdraft vent that will not come up.

We write only about the hoods we service, and a display code appears here only after its maker has published it. When a sentence depends on a maker's manual or installation sheet, the link sits right next to it; when it reflects only what our crew has found in homes, the page tells you that.

How a guide
is written.

Four rules every guide on this site follows, from the first question to the last revision.

01

Built on the complaints owners bring us

Subjects are picked from how people phrase a hood booking, paired with the safe first steps an owner can take: grease filters washed and refitted, the breaker and the wall switch tried, each fan speed run in turn, the outside duct cap looked at from the ground.

02

Held against the maker's documents

Duct sizes, mounting heights, blower placement and what a display message means are taken from the manual or install guide the manufacturer issued, and that source is linked at the line that relies on it.

03

Fire, current and height

Every page keeps the same limits: for a grease fire, burner off, never water, a lid over the pan and a 911 call if flames reach the hood or cabinets; for a burning smell, sparks or a tripping breaker, the breaker goes off; and nobody climbs inside a chimney cover or touches blower wiring.

04

Dated and revised

Each range hood page shows two dates, first posted and last revised, and the second one changes whenever a manual behind it is reissued.

Questions about
the guides.

Who writes the range hood guides on this site?
The technicians who take the hood appointments booked here. Anything they see at the filters, blower and damper is set against the manufacturer's published material whenever it is available.
Does a hood manufacturer sponsor or approve this content?
No. We repair range hoods independently, and no maker funds this site or sees a hood page before it goes live.
Where do I flag an error on a range hood page?
Use the contact form, naming the page and quoting the line you believe is wrong. If we agree, the text is fixed and the page's last-changed date moves forward.
