What Auto
actually means.

Bosch wall hoods carry overheating protection. When the appliance gets too hot, the fan jumps to the highest level, even if the hood was off, and the display shows Auto. You cannot turn the speed down until the temperature drops; the hood then returns to your setting, or shuts off if it had been off.

What to do when Auto shows on the range hood

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Bosch's own guidance for Auto on its range hoods. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Let the fan run at full speed; it is carrying heat away from the hood.

02

Turn down or switch off burners that are running very high, and do not leave a hot empty pan on the heat.

03

Wait for Auto to clear on its own once the hood cools.

04

If Auto shows up with only light cooking below, book a visit so the temperature sensing can be checked.

What not to do

Auto here is not an automatic mode you switched on; this hood's display uses the word for its overheating protection. Flames or smoke inside the hood are a fire, not this message, and need the burner off and the safety steps first.

Questions
about Auto.

Can I clear Auto myself?
Let the fan run at full speed; it is carrying heat away from the hood. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why did my Bosch hood turn itself on at full speed?
Its overheating protection sensed high temperatures and started the fan even though the hood was off. It shuts off again by itself once the temperature drops.
Can I turn the fan down while a Bosch hood shows Auto?
No. The setting is locked at the top until the hood has cooled, then it goes back to the level you chose.
Is Auto on a Bosch hood a sign of a failing part?
Usually not; it is the hood protecting itself from heat below. It becomes a repair question when Auto appears with little or no cooking going on.

Still showing Auto?

Three things make the booking useful: the letters or blink pattern exactly as they showed, the full model number from the label behind the filters, and whether the fan still moves air on every speed. With those, the technician arrives with half the answer already worked out.
