Bosch "Able" or "None": the hood was told it recirculates, or that it vents outside

The display needs to know whether the hood blows outdoors or returns air through a carbon filter, because only recirculation needs the charcoal reminder.

What Able
actually means.

The display needs to know whether the hood blows outdoors or returns air through a carbon filter, because only recirculation needs the charcoal reminder. Pressing plus and minus together with the hood off flips the setting: Able means circulating air is on, None means exhaust mode.

What to do when Able shows on the range hood

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Bosch's own guidance for Able on its range hoods. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Confirm how your hood is installed: a duct to the outside means None, a recirculating kit with a carbon filter means Able.

02

With the hood connected but switched off, press plus and minus together until the right word shows.

03

If the display will not change or the word flickers during cooking, book a visit.

Cleared?

The code is gone and the blower pulls steam up on every speed again without a new part. If it returns this week, or the filter reminder keeps coming back right after a cleaning, mention it in the booking.

What not to do

Able is not an error or a request for service. None does not mean the hood has lost its filters; it only turns off the charcoal count.

What you may
notice with it.

The range hood problems Able tends to arrive with. Answer these at the range hood before anyone is booked.

All problems

No repair indicated

Nothing to repair.

The hood is doing something it was told to do, not wearing out: a delay-off timer that keeps the blower running for some minutes after the burners go off, a heat sentry that starts the fan by itself when it senses a hot pan, a Sabbath setting that locks the keys and dims the lights, or a link to the cooking surface that sets the speed on its own. No part is needed; a key sequence from the manual, or simply waiting, ends it.

In Bosch's own words

Press the "+" and "-" keys simultaneously until "Able" lights up briefly on the display panel.

Questions
about Able.

Can I clear Able myself?
Confirm how your hood is installed: a duct to the outside means None, a recirculating kit with a carbon filter means Able.
Should my Bosch hood show Able or None?
None if it is ducted to the outside, Able if it recirculates through a carbon filter. Getting it wrong only affects which filter reminders you see.
Why can't I switch my Bosch hood to Able while cooking?
The change only works with the hood connected and switched off. Turn the fan off first, then press plus and minus together.
Will choosing Able make my Bosch hood recirculate?
No. The setting only changes the display's reminders. Recirculation needs the kit and carbon filter fitted to the hood.

Back to your everyday

Still showing Able?

Three things make the booking useful: the letters or blink pattern exactly as they showed, the full model number from the label behind the filters, and whether the fan still moves air on every speed. With those, the technician arrives with half the answer already worked out.
