What F
actually means.

JennAir's display hoods log how long the fan has run. After 30 hours they flag the metal grease filters with an F that shows only while the fan is working. The letter is a maintenance flag set by a timer, and it stays until someone holds the reset.

What to do when F shows on the range hood

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from JennAir's own guidance for F on its range hoods. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Switch the fan off, wait for the hood to cool and take the metal grease filters down.

02

Clean them in the dishwasher or a hot detergent soak and let them dry thoroughly before refitting.

03

Hold FAN for 3 seconds to clear the alarm.

04

Book a visit if the F cannot be cleared or reappears the next time the fan starts.

Still there?

It usually turns into range hood filter and baffle service. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

A JennAir F on the hood is not a numbered error code and does not report a failed blower or board. JennAir's F-codes on its cooking surfaces and microwave hood combinations are a different system and do not apply to a vent hood.

In JennAir's own words

After 30 hours of fan operation, the display will show “F” when the fan is active.

Every code on this site is taken from the manufacturer's documentation, never from a forum or a parts listing. JennAir's help site lists F for its display vent hoods without naming the models; JennAir telescoping downdrafts (JXD7030Y, JXD7036Y) use a slider and have no display.

Questions
about F.

Can I clear F myself?
Switch the fan off, wait for the hood to cool and take the metal grease filters down. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Is F on my JennAir hood the same as an F error on my JennAir burners?
No. On the hood, a lone F is only the 30-hour grease filter alarm. The F-codes on JennAir cooking surfaces are unrelated error codes.
Why does F on my JennAir hood disappear when the fan is off?
JennAir only shows the alarm while the fan runs. It has not cleared itself; hold FAN for 3 seconds after cleaning the filters.
Do I need new grease filters when my JennAir hood shows F?
Usually not. The metal filters wash in the dishwasher or a hot detergent soak; replace them only if the mesh is bent or torn.

Back to your everyday

Still showing F?

Three things make the booking useful: the letters or blink pattern exactly as they showed, the full model number from the label behind the filters, and whether the fan still moves air on every speed. With those, the technician arrives with half the answer already worked out.
