What C
actually means.

A JennAir hood installed to recirculate uses a charcoal filter to strip odors before the air returns to the kitchen. The control tracks fan hours and, at 120, shows C whenever the fan runs. On these hoods the charcoal filter is washed and dried hot to reactivate it, and replaced after about three years.

What to do when C shows on the range hood

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from JennAir's own guidance for C on its range hoods. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Remove the charcoal filter and run it through the dishwasher on the highest temperature with ordinary detergent.

02

Dry it in an oven for 10 minutes at 210°F or less to reactivate it, then reinstall it.

03

Hold FAN for 3 seconds to clear the C.

04

If the hood is ducted outdoors with no charcoal filter, hold + and - together for 3 seconds to disable the alarm; F flashes for 3 seconds to confirm.

Still there?

It usually turns into range hood filter and baffle service. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

C is a timer alarm about odor filtering and does not mean the blower is weak or the duct is blocked. It also does not appear on JennAir downdraft vents, which have no display.

What you may
notice with it.

The range hood problems C tends to arrive with. Answer these at the range hood before anyone is booked.

Every code on this site is taken from the manufacturer's documentation, never from a forum or a parts listing. JennAir's help site lists C for its display vent hoods without naming the models; the charcoal filter on these hoods is expected to last about three years.

Questions
about C.

Can I clear C myself?
Remove the charcoal filter and run it through the dishwasher on the highest temperature with ordinary detergent. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Does C on my JennAir hood mean I must buy a new charcoal filter?
Not at each reminder. JennAir has you wash and oven-dry the filter to reactivate it, and replace it after about three years of use.
How do I switch off the C alarm on a ducted JennAir hood?
Hold + and - at the same time for 3 seconds. F shows for 3 seconds to confirm, and the charcoal alarm stays off.
My JennAir hood shows both F and C. Which comes first?
Deal with both at once: wash the grease filters and the charcoal filter, then clear the alarms with a 3-second hold on FAN.

Back to your everyday

Still showing C?

Three things make the booking useful: the letters or blink pattern exactly as they showed, the full model number from the label behind the filters, and whether the fan still moves air on every speed. With those, the technician arrives with half the answer already worked out.
