Most electronic hoods watch a handful of things: how long the filters have been in use, whether the blower is turning at the speed it was told, the heat in the canopy, whether the keypad and board are responding, and on some, the lights, the damper and a downdraft vent's lift. When something is off, the board shows a code or blinks a light in a pattern. Several are not failures at all: a filter reminder after a set number of hours, a Sabbath mode, a delay-off or heat sentry symbol, and a link to the cooking surface. No two makers use the same symbols, so a blinking lamp that asks for a filter wash on one hood may flag a heat probe on another, and only the model number settles it.
